City football heavyweights East Bengal continued their march to the title with their fifth straight win, when they defeated Sports Authority of India (SAI) 3-1 in a Calcutta Football League (CFL) premier division encounter at Vidyasagar Stadium here on Sunday.

With this win, East Bengal are firmly entrenched at the top of the league table with 19 points from seven matches.

The red and gold brigade struck as early as the 4th minute when Rahul Bheke guided in a Saumik Dey lob.

East Bengal dominated the first session but failed to add to their scoreline till halftime.

SAI came back strongly in the second half when Asiruddin headed in the equaliser four minutes after the second session resumed.

Mehtab Hossain scored a beauty after fastening on to the partial block by a SAI defender of a Khabra strike in the 53rd minute.

A minute later, East Bengal's South Korean recruit Dong Hyun Do added the third when he scored off a long pass from Bello Rasaq.
