A child accidentally drowned in a neighbourhood pond here on Tuesday, police said.
"A one-and-a-half-year-old kid named Indrajit Singh accidentally fell into a pond adjoining his house at Parnasree in south Kolkata's Behala region on Tuesday morning," said an officer from Parnasree police station.
Police was informed after the locals spotted the kid's sweater floating in the pond.
"The kid was taken to the nearby Vidyasagar hospital in Behala where he was declared dead," the officer added.
