Chile players on Tuesday mourned the death of one of their federation doctors who died in a plane crash on Monday night by wearing black armbands during training on the eve of their Group F game against Iraq here.
Fernando Gonzalez Foretic, one of the founders of Clinica Meds, a sports medical institution linked to the Chilean federation, was in an aircraft which had just two people and he was the co-pilot.
The accident happened while the plane was flying over Rio de la Plata, the river and estuary formed by the confluence of the Uruguay and the Parana rivers.
He was 54 and is survived by his wife and three children.
