Chinese authorities on Thursday congratulated Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda on becoming the Himalayan country's 39th Prime Minister.
"China, as Nepal's close and friendly neighbour, stands ready to make joint efforts with Nepal to implement various agreements and expand mutually beneficial cooperation," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying.
She said China will push forward the bilateral comprehensive cooperative partnership featuring ever-lasting friendship.
Dahal was elected the Prime Minister on Wednesday after he received 363 votes in favour with 210 voting against him out a total 573 votes cast in the 595-member house.
He was backed by the largest party in the House -- Nepali Congress, constituents of the United Democratic Madhesi Front and the Federal Alliance and some other fringe parties.
