Cisco CEO Robbins concerned as downpour paralyses Mumbai

As torrential rains kept lashing Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra, Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins on Tuesday tweeted that he has been deeply affected by the life coming to an halt in Mumbai.

"Thoughts go out to those affected by #MumbaiRains - @Cisco continues to engage our employees and customers who need our help," Robbins tweeted.

Torrential rains lashed Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and other parts of the state for the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday, severely affecting normal life and paralysing the local train and bus services in Mumbai.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast "heavy to very heavy rains" for Mumbai and entire Konkan region during the next 24 hours.

Cisco, which began operations in the country in 1995. saw profits grow 340 per cent in the 2016 financial year on the back of Smart City initiatives and its partnership with Reliance Jio.

It employs almost 12,000 people across its various centres in Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Gurugram.

In November last year, Robbins had said that the networking giant is engaged with state governments at various levels to digitally transform 14 cities with the help from its partners and "wished to take this number to 100 in the next five-seven years".
