Coal India supplying crushed coal to all power plants

State miner Coal India (CIL) is supplying crushed coal to all power plants from the New Year, Coal Secretary Anil Swarup said on Friday.

"As Coal India moves towards double-digit growth in coal production, crushed coal being provided to all power plants from 1st of Jan," Swarup tweeted.

The measure is aimed at checking the quality of coal supplied by Coal India, which provides over 80 percent of the country's production.

The coal ministry had last month approved empanelling independent agencies to check the quality of coal supplied by Coal India Ltd to power firms.
