Injured ace comedian Jagathy Sreekumar is likely to get a compensation of Rs.5.9 crore from the insurance company after the two sides reached an agreement, a family member said Friday.
Sreekumar was seriously injured in a road accident on March 10, 2012 near Kozhikode in north Kerala while he was dashing off in the early hours to reach a shooting location on the Kerala-Karnataka border. Since then he has been confined to a wheel chair and is yet to recover his voice.
The actor's wife had last year filed a case before the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) court here for a sum of Rs.10.90 crore, later raised to Rs.13 crore.
"It's more or less final as we had filed a joint petition before the MACT and they forwarded it to the Thiruvananthapuram Legal Service Authority. The decision would be announced Saturday at the hearing which would be held here," said Sreekumar's son-in-law Shaun George told IANS.
George is the son of government chief whip P.C.George.
Sreekumar was under treatment at the Christian Medical College hospital at Vellore in Tamil Nadu for almost a year and returned to his home here in March last year.
In a career starting in the early 1970s, he has acted in more than 1,100 films and has been an integral part in the film industry here.
In 2011 alone, of the 70 Malayalam films that found its way into the theatres, Jagathy acted in 24 films.
