The driver of a Gurgaon councillor was shot dead here, triggering a retaliatory attack on Sunday that left a 35-year-old man injured in what police said was gang war.
The body of Ashok Kumar, 25, was found in Shakti Nagar area. He was also the nephew of gangster-turned-councillor Binder Gujjar.
Gujjar alleged that Sandeep Garauli and his gang were behind the murder. He told police that Ashok Kumar left his home around 1.30 a.m. on Sunday. He was fired at in his car.
A few hours later, Manish Khurana was injured in firing allegedly by the councillor's men, police said. Khurana and Pankaj Bangia alias Golu were allegedly attacked by the Gujjar camp.
Gujjar's camp believes that Khurana and his accomplices were responsible for the killing of Ashok Kumar.
Khurana told police that three to four man opened fire on him when he was at his home in Arjun Nagar.
Police said Khurana, who received a bullet in his head, also fired in retaliation. Khurana, who is linked to Sandeep Garauli gang, had contested the civic polls here against Gujjar in 2010 but lost.
An FIR against the councillor and his men was registered following the attack, a police officer told IANS. Some people were detained.
