To keep pace with the tech savvy criminals, Delhi Police officers are polishing their surveillance skills at weekly training sessions, Delhi Police chief B.S. Bassi said Saturday, hinting at a similar drill for constables later.
The first session for deputy commissioners and additional commissioners was held Aug 31 at a training academy in Chanakya Puri area. Classes would held every Saturday throughout the year.
The training sessions are "an effort to make Delhi Police more potent than what it is right now", said Bassi, the brain behind the initiative.
The officers will be taught new techniques on surveillance among other skills so as to upgrade themselves for tackling the new methods that criminals adopt in offences.
"The need of such training session is to sharpen and upgrade the ability of Delhi Police," said the police chief.
"A similar special training session will also be conducted for the constables where they will be trained to in good behaviour and maintaining law and order," Bassi told IANS.
Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) S.N. Srivastava said that the idea behind the training session was to make the Delhi Police officers capable of handling latest developments in the world of crime.
In the second training session Saturday, 45 senior Police officers learnt about latest developments in surveillance.
In the first session, the officers were given lessons to deal with cases that come under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
