One more person was arrested for his involvement in the Rs.7.69-crore heist here Wednesday. Delhi Police claimed a Haryana policeman took away part of the looted money.
Sunil alias Kake, 26, was arrested from the Nangloi area of west Delhi and Rs.25 lakh was recovered from him. He was nabbed following the arrest of his two associates, Ajay Nagarwal, 22, and Joginder, 24, Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
Police said Rs.64 lakh, a car and a motorcycle were also recovered from them. They added the remaining money was with the three absconding robbers - Pradeep alias Machinder, Shakti Naidu and Shakeel.
The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has already arrested three robbers - Gulzar, Tilak Raj and Praveen - while detaining a juvenile in connection with the case. Under the law, juveniles cannot be arrested.
The robbers Jan 28 had looted a businessman of Rs.7.69 crore in cash at gun point in Lajpat Nagar of south Delhi and escaped in the trader's car in which he was going with four other employees.
According to a police officer, after committing robbery, Shakti gave Rs.10 lakh to Ajay and Pradeep to purchase a second-hand big SUV (sports utility vehicle) so they all could go to a reamote area with such a huge amount of cash.
"When both were roaming in the Kherki Dola area of Gurgaon in search of a car dealer, they were stopped by two policemen. Sensing fear, Pradeep escaped from the spot with Rs.1 lakh in his pockets but Ajay who had Rs.9 lakh in his bag could not get away," a police officer told IANS.
Ajay was taken to the Kherki Dola police station and after being detained for three to four hours, he was asked to go. But, only Rs.1.5 lakh was returned in the bag while Haryana Police head constable Sandeep Kumar kept Rs.7.5 lakh, said the officer.
Delhi Police also claimed there were no entry of Ajay's detention in the Kherki Dola police station register.
A senior officer said this matter would be taken up with the Gurgaon police.
