A man died in police firing here on Thursday during a protest following the death of a child in a road accident.
Wasim, a resident of Shahbad Dairy area in west Delhi, was shot around 11.30 a.m. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Police said scores of people residing in the area started protesting after a three-year-old boy died in a road accident in the morning.
According to eye witnesses, there was a heated argument between police and the residents who gathered on the spot after the accident and blocked the road.
They claimed police, instead of arresting the driver, heckled locals who had caught and detained him.
Eye witnesses said police first fired tear gas shells and then bullets to disperse the crowd.
Senior police officials were tight-lipped over the issue.
