A Special Cell of Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a gangster from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh while his associate escaped, police said.
Sherkhan, 30, was involved in robberies in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.
Sherkhan came with his associate Sahun near the Mathura railway station, Deputy Commissioner of Police P.S Kushwah said.
They were going towards Kosi Kalan on a motorcycle when police intercepted them.
Sherkhan fired at the police to evade arrest but was overpowered while Sahun escaped, Kushwah said.
"Sherkhan told us that he and Sahun would flee to south India whenever police teams raided their hideouts," Kushwah said.
