Actor-turned-politician and DMDK founder Vijayakant on Friday said his party will not contest the R.K. Nagar bypoll to be held before December 31.
Vijayakant told reporters here that he was expecting assembly elections soon.
The Election Commission had announced that the bypoll, necessitated following the death of AIADMK General Secretary and Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa last year, would be held before December 31 this year.
The bypoll was scheduled for April 12 but the poll body countermanded the election following complaints of large scale bribing of voters.
On the other hand, DMK Working President M.K. Stalin said the party is ready to face the polls anytime.
