Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal on Wednesday said he will refer the matter of DMK members bringing the banned gutka (a tobacco product) inside the House and displaying the same to the Privileges Committee.

Some DMK members led by its Working President M.K. Stalin displayed gutka packs sourced from shops here.

Stalin also referred to the alleged gutka scam that involves several senior police officers and asked what action the government was planning to take.

Terming the act of displaying the banned substance inside the House as breach of privilege, Speaker P. Dhanapal said the issue would be referred to the Privileges Committee.

Speaking to reporters later, Stalin said while the government should take action against the sellers, it had announced breach of privilege action against the DMK members.
