Document leak: Three accused sent to judicial custody

A court here on Tuesday sent three accused arrested in the document leak case to judicial custody till March 17.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Satish Kumar Arora remanded the three to judicial custody after their police custody expired and Delhi Police did not seek their custodial interrogation.

The three accused -- Lokesh Sharma, an employee of the Noida-based energy consultancy Infraline Energy, Jitender Nagpal, personal assistant to a joint secretary in the environment ministry and Vipan Kumar, personal assistant to a member of the UPSC -- were produced in court when their police custody expired on Tuesday.

During the brief hearing, the police told the court that during the custodial interrogation of the three accused the names of seven more persons came up but nothing concrete could be found against them and the investigation is still on.

The police said: "We interrogated six or seven more suspects but nothing concrete was found against them so we did not arrest them."

Sharma, who was arrested on Feb 23, used to provide stolen documents of the coal and petroleum ministries to some corporate houses, police said.

Nagpal and Kumar were arrested on Feb 25.

Delhi Police have registered two FIRs in connection with the leak of classified documents related to various ministries, including coal, petroleum and natural gas and power.

All three were booked in the second FIR which was registered on Feb 20.

The first FIR was registered on Feb 17 night in connection with the case relating to the leak of documents from the petroleum and other ministries, which was unearthed with the arrest of two former employees of Shastri Bhavan.
