At least eight people were killed when a state-run roadways bus rolled down a hill on Thursday in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district, police said.
The Himachal Road Transport Corporation bus was on way from Chamba town to Killar when the accident occurred near Baragarh near Tissa, around 100 km from district headquarters Chamba.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Kulwant Thakur told IANS over the phone that the bus skidded off the road. He said the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
The injured have been taken to the nearby hospitals.
The accident spot, some 550 km from the state capital, is one of the remotest places in the state.
Most of the dead and the injured were from Chamba district.
Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh expressed grief over the incident.
He directed the district administration to take all possible measures to rescue the survivors and provide them relief.
