"Avengers: Age of Ultron" stars Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner have apologised for calling their co-star Scarlett Johansson's character Black widow a "sl*t" and "wh*re."

"Yesterday we were asked about the rumours that Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America. We answered in a juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologise," Evans' representative Molly Kawachi said in an email to USA Today newspaper, reports aceshowbiz.com.

Further Renner's representative, also released a statement which read: "I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone. It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour."

Previously in the interview with Digital Spy website, Renner incidentally shamed Black Widow, who was romantically linked to both Hawkeye (Renner) and Captain America (Evans) but in "Avengers: Age of Ultron", she takes a romantic turn with the Hulk.

Renner said: "She's a sl*t." Hearing his partner's comment, Evans laughed loudly and responded: "I was gonna say something along that line. She's a complete wh*re."
