Every household in Goa will soon get three LED bulbs as part of an energy saving spree, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said in his budget speech on Wednesday.
Presenting his first budget after taking over as chief minister in November last year, Parsekar, who holds the finance portfolio, said that the BJP-led coalition government here was working on a scheme to replace all conventional street lights with the more energy efficient LED bulbs.
"As a means to help domestic consumers reduce their monthly power consumption, we would formulate a scheme to give all households an option to get up to three LED bulbs, which would significantly cut down on energy consumption and result in huge savings," he said.
"I intend to work out a scheme to replace the street lights in the entire state with LED bulbs, beginning with municipal areas, to improve the quality of illumination and reduction of consumer costs through energy saving," he added.
LEDs are known to save energy costs and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had in January this year launched a scheme for Delhi state for promotion of energy saving bulbs.
Parsekar also said that the government had signed an agreement withteh Solar Energy Corporation of India for supply of 25 MW of solar power to the state for a span of 25 years to give boost to the renewable sector.
