Border Security Force (BSF) personnel seized fake Indian currency notes (FICN) with a face value of Rs 9.68 lakh in West Bengal's Malda district and arrested one person in this connection, a BSF official said on Tuesday.
All notes were of Rs 2,000 denomination, the official said.
Acting on a tip-off, the BSF troopers laid traps at three locations in the Golapgunj area of Malda district on Monday evening and arrested a suspect with four bundles of FICN from Kamat ITI Crossing in the area.
"The troopers arrested a person named Iqramul Seikh (50) and recovered 485 fake Rs 2,000 notes of the face value of Rs 9.68 hidden in his cloths," R.P.S. Jaswal, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of BSF's South Bengal Frontier, said in a press release.
"The person was arrested and seized FICN was handed over to the nearby Kaliachak Police Station for further action," he added.
The South Bengal Frontier of BSF has seized FICN of the face value of Rs 53.56 lakh and arrested seven smugglers so far this year.
