A farmer here in Uttar Pradesh committed suicide on Thursday by consuming pesticide, police and a family member said.
The incident occurred in the morning in Morta village in Ghaziabad district which adjoins Delhi.
Police said the hospital told them that the victim, Maneswar Tyagi of Morta, was brought in critical condition and died during medication.
He had apparently consumed sulphas, a pesticide used to protect foodgrain from damage.
A hospital official, who identified himself only as Rahul, said the farmer was brought by a family member, Yogesh.
"He held sufficient land and also had an orchard," Yogesh told the media. The man had reportedly suffered crop losses due to bad weather.
