Goa Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar was on Tuesday booked for allegedly threatening his constituents in Cotigao village in south Goa, 90 km from Panaji.
Tawadkar has said the complaint was politically motivated.
Superintendent of Police Shekhar Prabhudessai confirmed the registration of the FIR.
"An FIR has been registered upon the complaint of one Ponu Velip at the Canacona police station," Prabhudessai told reporters.
In the FIR, Tawadkar, a legislator from Canacona constituency, has been accused of accosting the complainant by blocking the latter's path with a car, then trying to assault him and threatening the complainant with dire consequences.
Tawadkar told IANS the FIR was politically motivated.
"The complainant is associated with my political rival. The FIR has been filed with an eye on the coming assembly elections," Tawadkar said.
