At least five people were killed and more than 15 others fell ill after consuming suspected spurious liquor at a bar in Mumbai's suburban Malavani area, police said on Thursday.

One person was arrested in this connection and the source of the spurious liquor - which the people consumed on Wednesday evening - was being investigated, police said.

Those showing symptoms of poisonous effects since Thursday morning were rushed to hospitals for treatment. The condition of two is reported to be serious, said Minister of State for Home Ranjit Patil.
