Police here Thursday arrested five people for allegedly demanding Rs.5 lakh from a contractor and seized a pistol from their possession.
The arrests came after the contractor lodged a complaint with the police Oct 13 that he was getting extortion calls from an ex-employee.
The contractor told the police that he had sacked an employee of his firm last month and the dismissed staff warned him that his son would be killed if he fails to deliver Rs.5 lakh to him.
"The arrested people were presented in a court, which sent them to judicial custody," said Jagdish Sharma, SP Ghaziabad (Rural).
