At least five people were killed and six injured when a group of armed people attacked a camp for internally displaced persons in Sudan's Darfur state, the commissioner of Bilail said.
"An armed group from Um Qoja area opened intensive fire in Al-Salam camp when people were busy shopping in a market, which left five people dead and six others injured," Xinhua quoted Mahmoud Fidail Kabir, the commissioner of Bilail locality in the state, as saying to a daily Saturday.
He added that the government has sent military forces to pursue the armed group and secure the areas around the camp.
Armed attacks have recently increased in Darfur where last week gunmen from the Sudan Liberation Army reportedly attacked Katela area in south Darfur.
Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has vowed to end the armed rebellion in South Kordofan, Blue Nile and Darfur regions by 2014.
