Actor Michael Douglas, who married actress Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2000, says that they had to work hard to fix their marriage when it was falling apart in 2013.
The couple had briefly split in 2013, but they got back together just a few months later, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
"It took work on both our parts. I don't think there's much chance of fixing a relationship if one of you is already out the door. I think we're both mellower and wiser. That comes naturally with time. We count our blessings," AARP magazine quoted Douglas as saying.
It was the stress over Douglas's battle with cancer in 2010 and the revelation that Catherine suffers from bipolar disorder that caused the temporary break from their marriage.
The couple have two children of their own -- Carys and Dylan. Douglas also has a son, Cameron, from a previous marriage.
