Former Army Chief General Om Prakash Malhotra (retd) passed away on Tuesday at the age of 93, an official statement said.
General Malhotra was the 13th chief of the Indian Army (1978-1981), ambassador of India to Indonesia during 1981-1984 and governor of Punjab and administrator of Chandigarh during 1990-1991.
The General is survived by his wife Saroj Malhotra and two children. His son Ajai Malhotra was Indian ambassador to the Russian Federation, Kuwait, Romania and Deputy Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations in New York.
Incumbent Army Chief General Dalbir Singh expressed condolences over the former chief's demise.
