Fortis to add 280 hospital beds in Bangalore

Leading healthcare service provider Fortis Healthcare Ltd is expanding its presence in this tech hub with 280 hospital beds, a statement said here Tuesday.

This will include a 70-bed mother and child care facility.

"The 210-bed tower in the city's southern suburb will have a cancer-care facility, with additional operation theatres, a brain suite and intensive care units," Fortis said.

Company's top executive brothers Malvinder Mohan Singh and Shivinder Mohan Singh were present on the occasion when the foundation stone for the 70-bed Fortis La Femme and 210-bed tower hospitals were laid here for construction over the next two years.

"Both facilities will fill a vital need and complement our specialty offerings in the city to offer affordable medical care to patients across Karnataka, which is an important hub for us," Fortis chairman Malvinder said on the occasion.

The company, which already operates five hospitals across the city, did not disclose investment being made in the new facilities or its source of capital.

The 70-bed hospital will provide primary to tertiary medical care and surgical capability in gynaecology, obstetrics and cosmetology.

"The hi-tech facility will have in-vitro fertilisation clinic and a neonatal intensive care unit to provide holistic ante and post-natal services for women and day-care medical services to children," the statement noted.

The new specialty hospital will have a centre for oncology to provide cancer care from diagnostics to rehab, integrating medical technology and clinical expertise in medical, radiation and surgical oncology.

"The oncology centre assumes significance as Bangalore has the third highest number of cancer cases across the country, as revealed by the population-based cancer registry report 2013.

The report points out the city has more women affected by cancer than men. The twin-facility will serve as a preferred treatment facility for patients from across the state and neighbouring states such as Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

The company's healthcare verticals comprise hospitals, diagnostics and day-care specialty facilities across the country besides Dubai, Mauritius, Singapore and Sri Lanka, with 66 facilities.
