France would propose to the UN Security Council a resolution to prevent Syrian government forces from allegedly using barrel bombs against civilians, the country's top diplomat Laurent Fabius said on Wednesday.
During a phone conversation with his Rusissan counterpart Sergei Lavrov, Fabius said the proposal would be on the table of the Security Council "soon", without giving further details, Xinhua news agency reported.
As preparation for the upcoming Syria peace talks in Vienna on Friday, the two senior diplomats discussed diplomatic ways to end the bloodshed in the Arab country.
In this context, Fabius reiterated the necessity to fight only the Islamic State and terrorist cells, accelerate political transition which ensures the leave of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Meanwhile, al-Assad on Wednesday accused many Western countries of supporting terrorism in Syria, according to the state news agency SANA, while major world and regional countries are expected to meet on the Syrian crisis later this week.
