Ethiopia's Dejen Gebremeskel set a new men's event record of 13 minutes 26 minutes to win the title of the 2014 B.A.A. (Boston Athletic Association) 5K.

Gebremeskel Saturday edged American Ben True to the second place, by less than one second, and 2013 B.A.A. 10K champion Stephen Sambu finished third with 13:27, reports Xinhua.

Gebremeskel got $7,500 bonus for the title and an additional $5,000 for the new event record.

It was the sixth time that the Boston Athletic Association has included a 5K event in the race week.

The 118th Boston Marathon is scheduled to take place Monday.
