The Goa government on Saturday formed a high-level steering committee to hasten decision-making in setting up infrastructure for the upcoming FIFA Under-17 World Cup.
Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma has been named the committee chairman.
Other key members of the committee are Secretary (Sports), Director, Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Executive Director, Sports Authority of Goa, Secretary (Protocol), among others.
It has been formed "to provide the required executive decision-making from the state government to meet all the requirements and obligations of being a host city for the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017", a government spokesperson told the media here.
Goa is expected to host nine matches of the international sporting event, including one quarter-final at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Fatorda, 40 kms from Panaji.
The tourney is scheduled to begin from October 6.
