About half-a-dozen Uttar Pradesh policemen and excise department officers were injured after a liquor mafia attacked a raiding team here, police said Wednesday.
Following a tip, police officer Amit Kumar Nagar raided an illegal liquor vend in Atrauli village in western Uttar Pradesh Tuesday night.
Taking advantage of the darkness, buyers and sellers at the vend beat up the raiding team with rods, sticks, bricks and stones.
Nagar became the attackers' target and sustained head injuries. Excise inspector Ajay Yadav and constable Vipin Sharma were also among the injured.
Nagar was shifted to a Ghaziabad-based super speciality hospital.
Vend owner Rajendra escaped. Police caught two of the attackers.
