Hamburg has appointed former Hoffenheim coach Markus Gisdol as their new head coach, the German football club confirmed.

Gisdol replaces Bruno Labbadia with immediate effect after putting pen to paper on a deal until July 2017, Xinhua reported on Sunday.

The 47-year-old coach and his assistants Frank Froehling and Frank Kaspari will lead the first training session on Monday.

Gisdol, who coached Hoffenheim until October 2015, will be officially introduced on Monday. His new team currently sits in the 16th place in the Bundesliga standings.
