Hamburg and coach Josef Zinnbauer have agreed on a contract extension, the German football club confirmed in an official statement.

Zinnbauer Monday put pen to paper on a two-year deal as Hamburg and the former under-23 coach made changes to the earlier contract, reports Xinhua.

Zinnbauer was presented as the caretaker following the dismissal of Mirko Slmoka but, the 44-year-old coach will now stay at the "HSV" until June 2016.

"Josef has shown that he can stabilise the performance of a team," Hamburg's director of professional football Peter Knaebel told the club's official homepage.

However, Hamburg sit still in 16th position in the standings with only five points out of six encounters under Zinnbauer.

Despite their poor performances they were able to hold Bayern Munich to a goalless draw and stun Borussia Dortmund with a narrow 1-0 victory.

"I am pleased that I can continue to coach the team. I will help the team to show constant performances," Zinnbauer said.

Hamburg take on defending champions Bayern Munich in the second round of the German Cup Wednesday.
