Cricketers, both former as well as current, took to social media to hail retiring Sri Lankan great Mahela Jayawardene as a legend.
Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh showered praise on the former Sri Lanka captain adding that it was always a challenge for him to get Jayawardene out.
"Class act superb batsman always been a challenge to get him out. 1 of th best player of spin bowing. well done legend @MahelaJay 4 gr8 career," tweeted Harbhajan Sunday.
Former India batsman V.V.S. Laxman also congratulated the 37-year-old tweeting: "Congrats to @MahelaJay on an outstanding career. #legend."
Former England great Kevin Pietersen's short brief tweet explained it all.
"LEGEND - @MahelaJay! Enough said!" Pietersen tweeted.
The Sri Lankan is playing his final Test against Pakistan at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo and scored a fine 54 runs Sunday in what was his last Test knock.
Playing his 149th and final Test, Jayawardene finished with 11,814 runs at an average of 49.84 with 34 centuries and 50 half-centuries and a highest score of 374 which he scored against South Africa in 2006.
Jayawardene retired from Twenty20 Internationals in April after Sri Lanka defeated India to lift the World T20 title in Bangladesh.
