The Haryana cabinet on Tuesday approved the appointment of international woman wrestler Geeta Phogat as a Deputy Superintendent of Police in the state police.

The Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar here, approved a Home Department proposal in this regard.

"She is a graduate and a sportsperson of international repute. She is also a gold medallist in wrestling at the 19th Commonwealth Games-2010 held in Delhi," a state government spokesperson said.

The Cabinet also approved the proposal to appoint mountaineer Ram Lal as Sub-Inspector under the sports quota.
