The Bombay High Court on Wednesday postponed till July 13 the hearing of an appeal filed by Bollywood actor Salman Khan against the five-year sentence awarded to him in a 2002 hit-and-run case.

The adjournment was sought by Salman's lawyer Amit Desai who asked for three more weeks to verify the documents pertaining to the case.

However, Justice A.R. Joshi granted time only till July 13 to complete the process of checking the documents - a compilation of evidence and documents served to both sides by the court.

Chief Public Prosecutor S.S. Shinde consented to the adjournment date.

On May 6, Khan was found guilty in the September 28, 2002 hit and run case and sentenced to five years jail by the Sessions Court for various charges, including 'culpable homicide not amounting to murder'.

One person was killed and four injured after the actor's car ran over them while they were sleeping on a pavement.
