Heavy rain and thundershowers on Saturday caused major inconvenience to commuters and inundated many roads in the eastern metropolis.
Areas like Salt Lake, Belgachia, Rajarhat in northeast Kolkata and stretches like Baishnabghata and Behala in the south saw water-logging.
A section of taxi drivers refused to ply due to water-logging in these pockets.
Sector-5 in Salt Lake, which is West Bengal's IT hub, witnessed a similar situation with many buses failing to ply in that stretch.
Traffic snarls held up commuters at key intersections including E.M. Bypass and Park Circus.
Potholed roads and ongoing construction of the Metro extension also added to the woes. Flyovers like those across the A.J.C. Bose road in south-central Kolkata were hit by traffic snarls.
