Union Law Minister D. V. Sadananda Gowda on Saturday said the central government will take steps to establish separate high court for Telangana after receiving a proposal from the state government.

Promising to establish the high court at the earliest, he appealed to the lawyers in Telangana to withdraw their strike, saying people and the judiciary was suffering because of their protest.

Gowda said his ministry would take the steps for bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh High Court and for setting up new high court for Telangana after receiving a letter from the chief minister of Telangana.

Stating that the Centre was bound by Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, he said the government of Telangana should write to the law ministry, giving details of infrastructure and other facilities required for the high court.

"Within a week I will write the governor and the chief justice of high court and will take the issue to the cabinet for a decision at the earliest," he said referring to the representation made by various groups of Telangana lawyers.

The minister said he had already written to the chief ministers of both the states to look into the matter and take the required steps.

He was addressing a meeting as part of the campaigning for BJP candidate for election to Telangana legislative council.

Senior advocate N. Ramchander Rao is BJP candidate for Hyderabad-Ranga Reddy-Mahabubnagar graduates constituency.
