There is something extraordinary about live performances -- a two-way connection -- that inspired a leading writer and director to come up with a Hnglish (a combination of English and Hindi) play titled "Amavas Se Amaltas," which brings to the fore several important issues faced by children.

Smita Bharti has often attempted to bring social issues in the limelight through the medium of her plays. Bharti has again succeeded in raising an imperative issue through "Amavas Se Amaltas". The play represents the many issues that children are facing today. By highlighting such difficult situations, the play opened a debate on the issue.

"Throughout the history of theatre in India, theatre practitioners have only done it for their love and for the stage and performing arts, often staking everything they own (and don't own)."

"As a society, we're extremely profit oriented and theatre up until now has never been a profitable venture. As a result of that, the arts, culture and preservation of it has taken a huge beating over the years", the veteran director said.

Among the many issues that are highlighted in the play are cervical cancer, autism, human trafficking and organ trafficking. The issue of juvenile justice remains at the core of this enriching play.

"Theatre actors should have the ability to think on their feet. They should be able to connect their character with the audience, have an aura and stage presence," Bharti added.

The cast includes veteran television and stage actress Jayati Bhatia, television actress Ankita Bhargava and comedian and actor Ssumier Pasricha.
