More than 1,000 Tibetans and Tibet supporters from Asian countries gathered here Monday to express solidarity with the plight of people in Tibet.

Participants at the rally included political leaders, students, teachers, monks, former army officials and members of the civil society, a press statement said.

Tint Swe, a former MP from Myanmar, expressed solidarity with Tibet.

Abdul Rasool Khan, a veteran of the 1962 Sino-Indian war, said New Delhi should have done more for the cause of Tibet.

He said it was the sacred duty of India to strengthen the Tibetan movement for a free Tibet.

Vijay Kranti, a staunch Tibet supporter, said India never shared a common border with China before 1949.

Other who addressed the rally include Tachok Kabak from Arunachal Pradesh and Ashoka Chourasia from Nepal.

India is home to the Dalai Lama, who fled his homeland in 1959, as well as some 100,000 Tibetans.
