I&B Minister Venkaiah lays emphasis on 'effective communication'

Directed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also BJP president Amit Shah to go pro-active in bringing in changes in the media perception about the NDA government, new Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday said "effective communication" is the key to realize change.

"I would like to focus on the task of information empowerment. Effective communication is a key factor. And the government is a reservoir of information relating to socio-economic, cultural and political aspects of a common man's life," Naidu told reporters after taking charge from his predecessor and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

"We need to ensure a proper flow of information - an information that is undiluted and unadulterated," Naidu said.

Naidu justified the expansion and rejig carried out by Prime Minister on Tuesday saying constitution allows 15 per cent of the strength of Lok Sabha for the ministry.

In the last two years, BJP leaders say, the Modi government has received "bad press" owing largely due to change in media perception.

Naidu's appointment also comes at a time when the I&B ministry is laying emphasis on the completion of phase 4 in the rollout of digital addressable systems.

In June, the government invited applications for the auction of 266 private FM radio frequencies across 92 cities.

"I would be guided by the principle of communication and development of the community," said Naidu.

Naidu also said "no one" has any reason to be unhappy with the latest reshuffle carried out by Prime Minister.

"No one has any reason to be unhappy. The exercise has been carried out under the prerogative powers of the Prime Minister," Naidu said.

He lauded Modi saying he is the "hope of the nation" and after long time there is a combination of stable government and able leader.

Naidu said his focus will be to convey to the media and the people about government's good works vis-a-vis developments and uplift of people's living condition in rural areas.
