Backstreet Boys band member Nick Carter, who might face a year in jail if convicted due to his arrest in a bar brawl, has apologised for his behaviour and said that he is not perfect.

Since his arrest for a bar brawl on January 13, Carter broke his silence and issued a statement to explain his actions, reports aceshowbiz.com.

Carter was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge after assaulting a bouncer at a restaurant in Florida. He and a man named Michael Papayans allegedly punched the bouncer while they were heavily intoxicated.

Police were called and Carter and his friend were taken to Monroe county detention center in Key West. He was released the next day on $1,500 bail.

Carter has now taken to his Twitter handle, and posted: "I am human and at times it can be a struggle to balance a healthy lifestyle. I'm not perfect and for that I am sorry. When we fall we have to get up and keep on walking. I hope you stay by my side and continue to walk with me."

The 35-year-old singer, who had struggled with drugs and alcohol abuse in the past, will face a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine, if convicted.

His arraignment is set for February 8.
