IAEA to issue final assessment on Iran's n-programme

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is to issue its final assessment on Iran's nuclear weapon programme next week, the UN nuclear watchdog said on Thursday.

"Next week, I expect to provide my final assessment on all past and present outstanding issues, as set out in my report of November 2011," IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said during a board meeting of the agency, Xinhua reported.

Under a historic nuclear deal signed by Iran and major world powers in July, Tehran should significantly scale back its atomic plan to address Western countries' concern over the alleged nuclear bomb programme, while the IAEA was asked to monitor the process.

The process has been going on well and met the timetable set in the deal, Amano said.

The IAEA released a disputed report in November 2011, saying that based on credible information it obtained, Tehran might have covertly carried out nuclear research plans on an atomic bomb, the so-called possible military dimensions, however, Tehran denied the allegation.

In line with the July nuclear deal, Tehran must resolve the possible military dimensions issue with the agency.
