Violent crimes have dropped to the lowest levels in 20 years in Singapore, but the number of people arrested for harbouring and employing immigration offenders has increased.
The law and order situation in Singapore continues to be favourable despite a slight increase from 2014 due to more online crimes, Xinhua news agency quoted the home ministry as saying on Wednesday.
Apart from online crimes, almost all other crimes registered a fall in the island state.
Violent and serious property crimes and housebreaking and related crimes dropped to the lowest levels in 20 years.
The number of unlicensed money-lending harassment cases continues to decline and was the lowest in 10 years.
The drug situation remained stable and the number of immigration offenders arrested continued to be low.
But online crimes rose sharply, especially scams, and this has been the trend since 2013, the ministry noted.
The number of new drug abusers, in particular those aged below 30 years, continued to rise. And the number of arrested harbourers and employers of immigration offenders had also increased.
