India played out a 1-1 draw with Iran in their first Group D match of the women's Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-19 Championship 2017 qualifiers here on Wednesday.
India went in the lead courtesy of forward Kashmina's goal in the 59th minute. Iran managed to pull level when substitute striker Hanieh Mokhtarifar slotted home in the 81st minute.
The Indians stood up to the physically superior Iranians and dominated the early exchanges. But the match was goalless at half-time.
Kashmina neatly converted a promising build-up from the right flank to put India ahead after the breather.
Iran blew a chance to score in the 71st minute when they shot wide from a penalty. They eventually restored parity 10 minutes later.
India next play hosts Vietnam on November 4.
