Indonesia's defeated presidential candidate to file lawsuit

Indonesia's Prabowo Subianto, who lost the presidential election, will file a lawsuit at the Constitutional Court Friday, officials said Wednesday.

The lawsuit may delegitimise the results of the July 9 presidential election, should the court approve it, Xinhua reported.

Prabowo's rival Joko Widodo and his running mate Jusuf Kall won the poll Tuesday evening by securing nearly 71 million votes, or 53.15 percent of the total.

Prabowo and his running mate Hatta Rajasa got 62.58 million votes or 46.85 percent.

Prabowo-Hatta's lawyer Muhammad Mahendradata said there were about 21 million votes from 52,000 polling stations to be contested.

According to the law, the court will allow the candidates to contest the results of the polls within three days after the results are announced.

On Tuesday, Ali Mochtar Ngabalin from the Prabowo camp claimed that the 21 million votes were all in favour of Prabowo and he alleged that the votes were manipulated.

Hours before the country's General Election Commission (KPU) disclosed the final result of the polls, Prabowo announced withdrawal of himself and Hatta from the developing election process for "massive, structured and systematic frauds" that they said they have found in the July 9 presidential election.
