Shuttler Parupalli Kashyap was ruled out from participation in the 12th South Asian Games (SAG) due to an injury, the Badminton Association of India (BAI) confirmed on Thursday.
Kashyap earlier requested the BAI and the sports ministry to excuse him from the Games, which begin on Friday. These will be held in Shillong and Guwahati from February 6 to 10.
Female shuttler Jwala Gutta was nominated to be the captain of the Indian team to participate in the Games. Badminton Association of India (BAI) president Akhilesh Das Gupta nominated Gutta, acording to a BAI release.
Das Gupta also hoped all the medals in badminton will be bagged by the Indian team.
The Indian team will be arriving at Shillong on Friday at noon and will participate in a practice session in the evening at Sports Authority of India's (SAI) North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) campus in Shillong.
