The Islamic State (IS) terrorist group has in a video threatened to "burn America" in a 9/11-style attack, according to media reports.

The chilling IS video warns that there is "no safety for any American on the globe", the Daily Mail reported on Monday.

Titled "We Will Burn America", the video calls on IS supporters to attack the US on its own soil, terming its citizens' sense of safety a "mirage".

The 11-minute video also showcases some of the militants' bloodiest atrocities, featuring the beheading of US journalist James Foley, several mass beheadings and the horrific burning of Jordanian pilot Moaz al-Kasasbeh.

Subtitles added to the footage claim that previous "mujahideen" -- a term used to describe someone waging jihad -- managed to carry out the 9/11 World Trade Center twin-tower attacks in New York with little resources.

The 9/11 attacks were a series of four coordinated Al Qaeda terrorist strikes in the US on September 11, 2001, which killed close to 3,000 people and damaged at least $10 billion worth of property and infrastructure.

In broken English, the IS video adds: "By Allah's willing, the fear will spread among them again soon."

"Here it is America now losing billions still to make sure their country is safe. But today, it's time for payback."

"By the grace of Allah, today the mujahideen are much more stronger and they have more resources (than) before. Thus they are able to burn (the) United States again."

The video shows footage of hijacked planes crashing into the World Trade Center towers.

Other incidents the video features include the killings carried out by Amedy Coulibaly, the French-born gunman who killed four civilians and a police officer in Paris in January.

The video is not the first in which the group threatens the US.

In January, IS militants had threatened to behead US President Barack Obama and turn the US into a Muslim province.
