Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Wednesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the union cabinet's approval for the inclusion of Malayali Gounder, Narikoravan and Kuruvikaran communities in the list of scheduled tribes.
The cabinet chaired by Modi on Wednesday approved the introduction of two constitutional amendment bills in parliament to expand the list of Scheduled Tribes in respect of Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Tripura and identification of new communities in the union territory of Puducherry.
Jayalalithaa said the long pending demand of the state had been accepted and that she conveys her heartfelt thanks to Modi.
