The Jharkhand assembly's proceedings were disrupted on Tuesday after the opposition demanded the formulation of a domicile policy to protect the interests of the indigenous people of the state.

The house witnessed chaos as an adjournment motion moved by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha legislators Jagganath Mahto and Deepak Biruwa over the domicile policy was rejected by assembly Speaker Dinesh Oraon.

The opposition members trooped into the well of the house and indulged in sloganeering.

Leader of opposition and JMM leader Hemant Soren said the house needed to discuss the important issue. He demanded the introduction of a bill in the house on the matter and even favoured extension of the assembly session.

In response, Chief Minister Raghubar Das said all parties should think above party lines in the state's interest.

He said the state government had sought written suggestions from all parties on the domicile policy.

"Instead of doing politics, the opposition should give written suggestions to help the government formulate the policy," he said.

As the opposition members continued to rally in the assembly's well, the speaker adjourned the house till noon.

When the house reassembled, the opposition members of all the parties came into the well again. The house was then adjourned till 2 p.m.
